Geese Removal

What is a Canada goose?

The Canada goose is a giant goose species with a black head and neck, white patches on the face, and a brown body. They are native to arctic and temperate regions of North America.

Once considered a symbol of wilderness, they are presently successful at living in human-altered areas.

Canada geese have proven able to establish breeding colonies in urban and cultivated areas, which prompted the growing, steady goose-related complaints by several business owners and homeowners associations.

Their success has led to them often being considered as pest species.

Most goose problems that pester many urban and suburban areas are mainly caused by Canada geese, which are considered as the most adaptable waterfowl.

If left uncontrolled, these geese can turn into pests and easily create nesting zones on farms, city parks, residential yards, golf courses, soccer fields, parking lots, school premises, and other establishments.

A pair of geese can live an average of 5 to 7 years and can easily reproduce, turning two into a hundred birds that can bring aesthetic and structural damage, pollution, and health hazards.

Geese Damage and Health Hazard

Bird droppings, damage to property and destructive behavior exhibited by geese are the common complaints expressed by property owners.

Geese are fascinated to areas with ample supply of freshwater, flourishing grasses, potential nesting sites, and those with few predators. As geese tend to live in areas where human activities take place, this is where problems arise.

Since geese are grazers, they can damage gardens, landscapes, vegetation, farm crops, golf courses, and soccer fields.

Moreover, geese droppings that contain bacteria (Salmonella, Campylobacter, Escherichia coli, Listeria, and Chlamydia) and parasites (Cryptosporidium, Giardia, and Toxoplasmosis) can contaminate bodies of water that doesn’t only cause harm to humans but also to the local animal population.

Their droppings can also increase the risk of personal injury resulting from falls as people lose footing on their slippery waste. And since geese are territorial animals, people or pets that venture closely to them can suffer serious injury.

Geese Removal, Control, and Prevention Methods

In Indiana, geese are federally protected and trapping and removing them require professionals with the proper license and permit. At Illiana Wildlife Services, modification of their habitat is one of our methods of controlling geese. We eliminate cover bushes, aquatic vegetation and reduce fertilizer around bodies of water to make the vegetation less nutritionally attractive to geese.

Forbidding people to feed these birds will also help in reducing their population because geese being fed will likely turn into permanent residents.  Removal of aggressive nesting pair and bird roundups are also involved in our geese control and removal process.

If your property is currently disturbed by unwelcome geese, get in touch with the geese control and removal experts at Illiana Wildlife Services. We will visit your site, assess your needs and provide you the most effective, humane and environmentally friendly Indiana goose control service possible.
